[Highroll3.5] The true essence of highrolling...

Nesting season is over.

From now on, we will be entering the season when the number of recovering bass, who will be actively chasing bait as we approach the rainy season, will begin to increase rapidly!

My home ground, Lake Tsuburo in Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture, is currently in post-season conditions.

As we approach the rainy season, water levels are likely to rise, especially in reservoirs.

In fact, when the water level rises and the tank becomes full, that's when High Roll comes in handy!

A reservoir that is full of water inevitably has a lot of overhang. In the latter half of May, the daytime temperature exceeds 20°C on more and more days, so anglers will need to take measures to protect themselves from sunburn.

When that happens, bass tend to prefer shaded areas. Moreover, when the water level is full, overhangs appear everywhere, creating lots of shade!

At times like this, the shade is a perfect retreat for bass. You will likely see many bass waiting in the shade for bait to come, or swimming along the shade in search of bait!

However, the closer the water level is to full water, the narrower the gap in the overhang becomes, making it more difficult to cast a lure into the shade.

At times like these, you will likely make heavy use of skipping, and this is where one of the features of high roll - the ease of skipping - comes in handy!

The slit between the body and tail bends exquisitely when the lure skips across the water surface, minimizing stalls and allowing the lure to continuously bounce up to the very end of the overhang.

This means that even if there is an overhang some distance to the shore, the lure will skip deeper than you think, allowing you to approach from right on the shore!

When a lure reaches the very end of an overhang, the bass, who have let their guard down in the shade, will recognize it as bait that has suddenly appeared in front of them and will often take the bait in one move!

In addition, an important element that we considered to be important in bringing it to the part-time job was the ability to "pull it slowly."

This is possible because the hook is set on the top of the body, and the head creates an effect similar to a minnow lip, which creates strong water resistance and allows you to reel it in more slowly. This is the unique action of a high roll!

The body shape makes it easy to skip to the very end of the overhang, and the ability to slowly pull it through the shaded bite zone combine to bring in fish that are hungry for bait.

This is the true essence and key point of high rolling!

I've been going to Lake Tsuburo for almost 20 years now, and I wanted a lure that could go deeper and be pulled more slowly than the lures I'd used to, so I put so much thought into making the Highroll3.5!!

When I was asked to develop lures for the Galápagos brand, the first thing I thought was, "I want to create something that doesn't exist."

I am not 100% satisfied with existing lures.

If it was like this, wouldn't it be even better?

From the start of development until we arrived at the current shape, it took about two years of trial and error, and we visited Lake Tsuburo many times to search for the right answer on site...

This led to the idea of placing the hook on the top of the body, which is something that is unlike anything else!

"It's either not there...or it's exceeded..."

And so the lure known as the High Roll was born!

There's still a lot to be said about High Roll, so I'd like to talk about it some other time 😁😁

High rolls can be caught all year round, but I especially recommend them this coming season.

If you like, please add it to your tackle box 😊😊

Thank you for reading to the end.
